God's Holy Book

"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." -- II Timothy 3: 15-17

Today we had two baptisms and a re-affirmation of faith and our sermon was entitled, "God's Holy Book" and was given by Pastor Bobby Whetzel. It centered around the idea that the bible is a book that is needed today and what it means to us.

What if John 3:16 Wasn't True?

"16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Here are a few of my own person notes and thought after today's service.

Our sermon today was on John 3:16 and what hopelessness would fill our world if it were not true. What might happen if God gave us what we deserved rather than what we needed? Luckily, God does love us, Jesus did come, and we are saved. God loves us despite our sin. What if Salvation was only for a few, rather than the 'whosoevers'? Thankfully, the gospel is for us all. We, you and I, are those 'whosoever' and can have Eternal Life, as long as we believe. Even as we were sinners, Christ died for us. What if God's offer was not based on belief but on works? Picture a world where everyone tries to work their way into heaven. None of us would make it; Isaiah 64:6 tells us that we are all unclean things, and our righteous works as filthy rags. God is great and we can do nothing so great that we can impress our way into Heaven. Give praise, therefore, that Eternal Life is not reached through our works, but through our belief. Seek first Faith and the good works will come, not only from you but to you.

I hope to see you next Sunday,
